Assistant Accountant
Emtec Group, part of the Sauter Group of companies is a growing multi-disciplinary contractor delivering projects across building services, energy, utilities, facilities management, Fire and security and more.
We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team at Uddingston, supporting one of our Emtec Group business areas.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership, working closely with operational teams, and playing a key role in delivering accurate, insightful financial information to the business. You’ll work alongside the Group Finance Manager and Finance Director, helping to shape and develop a best-in-class finance service.
The Role
You’ll take responsibility for the end-to-end management accounting process for your allocated business area, acting as a trusted finance contact and supporting colleagues across the business with financial queries and insight.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
· Directly manage one team member responsible for Sales Ledger & Bank
· Support development, ownership and improved ways of working
Management Accounting
· Prepare and review Monthly Management Accounts
· Post monthly journals (accruals, prepayments and ad hoc adjustments)
· Produce ad hoc reporting including cash flow analysis
· Complete balance sheet reconciliations
· Respond to management queries and support timely issue resolution
· Maintain strong ledger control across relevant entities
Subcontract & Commercial Support
· Process subcontractor applications and certificates
· Prepare month-end subcontractor payment runs
· Manage subcontractor queries and ad hoc payments
· Liaise with engineers, managers and commercial teams
· Support CIS compliance and subcontractor onboarding
Tax & Compliance
· Ensure compliance with CIS and DRC VAT requirements
· Support VAT returns
· Ensure timely submission of CIS returns
Systems & Continuous Improvement
· Support ERP (Business Central) and Jet Reports updates
· Assist with troubleshooting and process improvement projects
· Contribute to ongoing finance efficiency initiatives
What We’re Looking For
Essential
· Experience in transactional finance (Purchase Ledger, Subcontract or Sales Ledger)
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Confident working across teams and influencing at all levels
· Proactive, organised and able to work independently
· Comfortable taking ownership while keeping senior stakeholders informed
Desirable
· Line management experience
· Experience within a construction or contracting environment
· Familiarity with Business Central (Navision/Evision)
