Due to continued growth and a number of significant contract awards, we are seeking a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Team based in our Edinburgh office.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to build a career in Quantity Surveying within the Building Services sector. Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will gain exposure to all aspects of commercial management and contract administration across a range of mechanical and electrical projects, supported by structured training, mentoring and ongoing professional development.
What You’ll be Doing
Assist with the preparation of monthly Cost/Value Reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
Support with tender reviews, contract vetting and tender preparation.
Support the preparation, pricing and tracking of project variations.
Prepare and issue subcontract tender enquiries and subcontract orders.
Attend project pre-start, progress and commercial meetings as required.
Assist with the assessment and processing of subcontractor payments and associated notices.
Support the preparation and submission of valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
Work closely with Project Teams to monitor project costs, variations and commercial performance.
Assist with contract administration, including issuing notices in accordance with contractual requirements and timelines.
Monitor site progress and maintain accurate commercial records.
Collaborate with the wider project team and develop an understanding of contractual and commercial matters relating to mechanical and electrical construction projects.
Undertake any other duties necessary to support the Commercial Team and your professional development.
What We Are Looking For
Recently completed an HNC, or currently progressing towards an HND, in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Services Engineering or a related construction discipline, with aspirations to progress to a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying.
Candidates currently progressing towards an HND will also be considered.
A genuine interest in developing a career in Quantity Surveying within the construction and building services industry.
Strong numerical, analytical and IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Previous construction, engineering, building services or commercial experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
